Golf course improvements

ORONO – During November, the Penobscot Valley Country Club installed golf cart paths on 10 of its 18 holes.

In an effort to restore the golf course to the original 1923 Donald Ross design, said General Manager Colin Gillies, the club is working with restoration expert Ron Forse’s long-range plan. The original Donald Ross green shapes will be restored next spring. Several natural areas have been planted with fescue grass, which will enhance the links design to more closely resemble Ross’ original design. Bunker fences have been restored with fescue grass this season.

The restoration is expected to take several years and it is anticipated that the effort will place Penobscot Valley Golf Club near the top of the list of Donals Ross golf course designs in New England, Gillies said.
