HAMILTON, N.Y. – The University of Maine women’s hockey team split a weekend series with Colgate, winning 2-0 Saturday and losing 3-1 Sunday.
On Sunday, the 6-7 Red Raiders won their first game against Maine after having an 0-7-1 lifetime mark against the Bears.
Second-period goals by Hilary Ford and Amanda Barre put Colgate up for good. Ashley Johnston added an insurance goal in the third. Becky Irvine had two assists, Barre added one, and Brook Wheeler saved 15 of 16 shots.
Brigitte Laflamme gave Maine a 1-0 lead 14 minutes into the game on a goal assisted by Sonia Corriveau and Laura Maddin. Rachel Gettings made seven saves on 10 shots.
On Saturday, Kate Sunstrum and Corriveau each scored their fourth goals of the season to lead Maine.
Sunstrum’s goal came off a redirection of a Morgan Janusc shot 9:26 into the game. Corriveau scored unassisted midway through the second period.
Maine’s Gettings saved all 18 shots for her second shutout and the Black Bears improved to 4-5-2 on the season.
Rebecca Lahar made 26 saves on 28 shots for the Red Raiders.

At Boston, Bates seized the Harbor Invitational after the Bobcats surged past the Beacons, led by tournament MVP Rob Stockwell,.
Stockwell netted 23 points for Bates, followed closely by Elliot Linsley with 22 and Brian Gerrity with 19. Jon Furbush chipped in with 12 points.
Tony Barros led the scoring for UMass Boston with 19 points. Alberto Paniagua netted 12 and Eric Bateman contributed 10 for the Beacons.

At Gorham, Husson and Southern Maine traded leads several times until Southern Maine’s Jason Levecque sparked a decisive 18-6 run and gave his team a 12-point lead with six minutes to go.
Levecque finished with 21 points to lead USM. Mike Francoeur added 17 and Bill Hardwick netted 12. Josh Daniels and Jessie McKinnell each added 10.
Tyler Muzzy led Husson of Bangor with 24 points, Jeff White netted 13 and Phil White added 11.

STATESBORO, Ga. – A long road trip to a warm climate. A rare playoff game against a team that has won six national titles. New Hampshire was bound to be overmatched and overwhelmed at Georgia Southern. Right?
Not exactly.
The Wildcats, making only the third appearance in the Division I-AA playoffs in school history and the first since 1994, overcame an early 15-point deficit to beat Georgia Southern 27-23 in a steady rain Saturday night.
The Wildcats (10-2) next will travel to Montana for the quarterfinals. Montana advanced with a 56-7 home victory over Northwestern State.
