PARKMAN – Until police interview “some people of interest” who are now out of state, the investigation into the March 11 death of an elderly Parkman man is on hold.

Arthur Bailey, 74, died on March 11 at Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor from “blunt trauma to the head,” according to the state medical examiner’s office.

Bailey was found by a Bangor Daily News delivery person early in the morning lying in his driveway and bleeding badly from his head. A rifle was lying near Bailey and his German shepherd dog was keeping guard.

Family members were suspicious of his death and reported that personal items were missing from Bailey’s Route 150 home.

Maine State Police Sgt. Stephen Pickering said this week that the case is not closed.

Most of the leads provided to police have resulted in no solid evidence, but there are some “people of interest” whom police want to interview, Pickering said.

David Elderkin, Bailey’s son-in-law, said Tuesday that police told him a few weeks ago that the case was on hold. He said he was “kind of disappointed” that the case has not been resolved.

“We’d just like to have peace of mind to satisfy us,” he said.
