Arizona man charged in Bangor home burglary; allegedly caused four accidents in stolen SUV

BANGOR – An Arizona man was being held at Penobscot County Jail on Wednesday night after he allegedly broke into a home business, fled in a stolen SUV and caused four accidents, according to police.

Bail for Piere Fabiani, 39, of Tucson was set at $6,000 on the eight charges, although authorities said additional charges could be filed. The Arizona man was expected to appear in 3rd District Court in Bangor today.

More than a half dozen police officers and detectives were involved in the investigation of the incident that began about 7 p.m. on Broadway and ended when Fabiani drove the stolen SUV into a utility pole near the intersection of Kenduskeag Avenue and Madison Street, according to police.

After the crash, Fabiani fled and hid inside a home where he was later located, said Bangor police Sgt. Ed Potter.

Before the crash that totaled the stolen vehicle, Fabiani was involved in four hit-and-run accidents along Stillwater Avenue, police said.

As police arrived at one accident scene, another accident was being called in, Potter said. In one of the four accidents a motorist suffered minor injuries.

Investigators recovered the items stolen from the home business, which is located on Broadway, Potter said.

Fabiani is being charged with burglary, theft by unauthorized taking, operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of intoxicants, driving to endanger, three counts of leaving the scene of a property damage accident and one count of leaving the scene of a personal injury accident.
