Simpson,UMF whip Thomas Deetjen leads Beavers to sweep

FARMINGTON – Kari Simpson scored 23 points and had eight rebounds to lead the University of Maine-Farmington to a 79-41 women’s basketball victory over Thomas College of Waterville on Wednesday night.

Meagan Cyr had 13 points and three steals for UM-Farmington and Melissa Sawyer scored 12 points.

Tammy Fowler had eight points, 10 rebounds and three steals for Thomas of Waterville and Samantha Davis added nine points and three steals.

At Wadsworth Gymnasium in Waterville, Laura Williamson scored 16 points to push Colby College to the victory.

Wendy Bonner and Katie McCabe each had 14 points and seven rebounds for Colby and Kathleen Nicholson had six steals.

Elise Begnoche had 17 points and 13 rebounds for Rivier College.

At Farmington, Bobby Deetjen scored 16 points and grabbed nine rebounds to push the University of Maine-Farmington to the win.

Steve Ginn and Travis Magnusson each had 14 points and five assists for the Beavers. Matt St. John scored 13 points while Luke Nielson and Travis Carrier netted 10 points each.

Adam Rich scored a game-high 28 points for Thomas College of Waterville. James Godley had 18 points and five assists and Dan Grappi had 14 points and five steals while Josh Yucius pulled down 12 rebounds.
