McCormick to head housing authority

AUGUSTA – Gov. John E. Baldacci on Thursday nominated outgoing state Treasurer Dale McCormick to head the Maine State Housing Authority.

McCormick was the first female state treasurer in Maine, serving eight years, the maximum allowed consecutively under term limits. As treasurer, she has been responsible for managing the state’s trusts and investments, borrowing, and revenue sharing.

If confirmed by the Senate, McCormick will replace Michael Finnegan at the helm of MSHA, which helps Maine people obtain affordable housing. MSHA also provides heating aid and finances supportive housing services, home repairs and weatherization.

She was nominated for the housing job a day after the Legislature elected former state Rep. David Lemoine to a two-year term as treasurer.

Previously, McCormick served in the state Senate for three terms and ran her carpentry business.

“The combination of Dale’s financial and housing experience makes her perfectly suited to lead the operations of MSHA,” Baldacci said.
