CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Defense contractor General Dynamics Corp.’s armament and technical products unit on Monday said it received a $6 million contract to make 1,393 30 mm gun barrels from the Defense Department’s logistics agency supply center in Columbus, Ohio.

The contract is worth up to $13 million if all options are exercised. The program will be managed at the company’s technology center in Vermont, with production at its Saco, Maine, plant. Deliveries will start in July at a rate of 77 barrels per month.

The barrels will equip the A-10 fighter aircraft, currently being used in the Middle East and capable of piercing tank armor.

General Dynamics posted 2003 revenue of about $16.62 billion.
