Company recalls 158,000 light bulbs

WASHINGTON – A company is recalling about 158,000 fluorescent light bulbs because they can overheat and spark, the government said Wednesday.

Technical Consumer Products Inc. of Aurora, Ohio, has received 16 reports that the three-way compact fluorescent bulbs have overheated. No injuries have been reported, the Consumer Product Safety Commission said.

The bulbs were sold nationwide at Home Depot and Orchard Supply Hardware under brand names Commercial Electric and DuraBright, respectively, from April to November of this year for about $10 for a single pack and $19 for a double pack.

The 32-watt bulbs, made in China, are about 7 inches high and have a spiral fluorescent tube attached to a white plastic base. The bulbs have watt outputs of 40, 75 and 150.

The recall covers item numbers 283-924, 575-717 and 69032.

Consumers should stop using the bulbs immediately and contact the company for a free gift card at (800) 397-2647, weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
