What a wonderful community service project the freshman class of Madison Area Memorial High School has planned for area residents.

A Clothes Swap is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the high school.

On behalf of the class, Maura Smith, one of its nine advisers, invites everyone to participate in this project, which offers you the opportunity to exchange and recycle clothing for children up to size 14.

You are invited to “bring what you can” and “take what you need,” and there is no charge for any of the clothing.

And, while you’re exchanging and swapping, if you have little ones with you, members of the freshman class will be on hand to offer light refreshments and watch over them as they read, play and color in the Kids’ Corner.

Clothing donations should be in good condition and not too worn, ripped or stained.

You are asked to launder them and sort by gender and size, if possible.

Included in the swap will be boots, coats, hats, mittens and scarves but no undergarments.

As we head into the holiday season, and the chilly blast of a Maine winter, here’s a great way for Somerset County folks to outfit their kids while outfitting others!

Recycling in this manner has been with us forever, among family and friends, and now, MAHS freshmen are making it an official community connection.

If you have questions about this project, call the high school at 696-3395.
