Regarding the article, “Vehicle inspections get tougher/Garage practices eyed” (BDN, Nov. 6-7).

I own a 2001 Chevy S-10 pickup truck that I bought wrecked, and repaired it. Chevrolet manufactures this truck with a low ride package (Extreme) as an option. Using all GM parts, I made this truck into an Extreme.

The inspection station removed the inspection sticker and told me that I could not do that due to the fact that the truck has ABS brakes. I informed them that I did not touch any part of the brakes, and GM manufactures this truck the same way I did. The ABS brake parts are the same except for four-wheel drive vehicles.

I asked them what I did wrong, and they said the truck wasn’t built with that VIN number and that I couldn’t do that.

I have been a mechanic for more than 40 years, and have fixed lots of cars and trucks in a safe manner, because I don’t want to be hurt or hurt others.

The Maine State Vehicle Inspection laws have gone way out of reach, and maybe the state of Maine should rewrite the laws, and see what’s really getting passed.

Or, maybe they should do all the inspections – and take vehicles off the road that aren’t safe.
