It’s official: Kerry wins in Maine

AUGUSTA – Days before Maine’s four electors meet in the State House to cast presidential ballots for Sen. John Kerry, official state election figures confirmed what everybody already knew: Kerry won in Maine.

The secretary of state’s official figures show that Kerry won with 53.6 percent of the vote in Maine. The final numbers show the Massachusetts Democrat beat President Bush in the Nov. 2 election in Maine by 66,641 votes.

Kerry also won in both of Maine’s congressional districts, meaning the electoral votes to be cast at 2 p.m. Monday all will go to the Democrat. Kerry got 396,842 votes, and Bush got 330,201 votes, or 44.6 percent.
