SHAPLEIGH – A Berlin, N.H., man wanted for attempted murder in Massachusetts has been arrested in Maine, the U.S. Marshals Service said.

The service said Travis Perkins, 25, was arrested Tuesday in Shapleigh hiding in a family member’s basement.

Perkins was wanted for failing to appear in Middlesex County Superior Court in Cambridge, Mass., after being indicted on a charge of assault with intent to murder in August.

The marshals service said the indictment stemmed from a 15-mile chase in which Lowell, Mass., police pursued a stolen car driven by Perkins.

Perkins allegedly ran a police cruiser off the road, crashed into another police car and injured an officer.
