Foster powers Houlton past Owls in opener

MADAWASKA – Rachel Foster scored 16 points to help the Houlton Shiretowners open the schoolgirl basketball season with a 60-30 victory over the Madawaska Owls Friday night.

Danielle Sewall tossed in 13 for the winners.

Kelly Chasse led host Madawaska with 10 points.

Stephanie Shuster paced the Trojans with 18 points, Amanda Young added 12 and Kelsey Stratton put in 11. Emma Stanley, Sara Banks and Susan Felt each chipped in with 10 points.

Kelly Rainey scored six points to lead Searsport.

At Machias, Kayla Kochendoer scored 11 of her 17 points in the first quarter as the Dragons bolted out to a 29-4 lead and never looked back.

Rachel Torrey and Courtney Cochran, both freshmen, finished with 16 and 11 points respectively for Woodland.

Christiannah Holmes notched 14 points and 14 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
