Ambrose sparks Brewer Orono shuts out Old Town 3-0

BREWER – John Ambrose scored two goals and Zach Wilson notched three assists to help the Brewer Witches open with a 7-5 high school hockey win over the Messalonskee Eagles Saturday night.

Zach Wilson, Mike Kotredes, Matt Grimes, Eamon Harding and Marc Relford each added another goal for Brewer. Matt Wilson helped with two assists and Aaron Saunders saved 12 of 17 shots.

Ted Fabian knocked in two goals for the Eagles of Oakland, while Burt Marston had a goal and two assists. Garrett Mosher and Phil Mason each scored once. Mike Hachey and Zack Parent combined to stop stopped 16 of 23 shots.

Orono 3, Old Town 0

At Alfond Arena in Orono, the Red Riots scored twice in the final two minutes of the game and outshot the Indians 66-6 in the win.

John Tuell scored twice and Chad Sanborn once for Orono. Jared Buzzell shut out the Indians with six saves.

J.P. Stowe made 63 saves on 66 shots for Old Town.

At Eastport, Skylar Richardson scored 10 points in the second quarter en route to a team-high 18 as the Tigerettes rolled.

Taunya Cook chipped in with 16 points and Tashina Francis added 10 for Shead.

Christina Fifield paced the Mariners with 18 points.
