A Husson College men’s basketball player was arrested early Monday morning on a charge of operating under the influence.
Andrew Frost, 18, of Brewer was stopped for speeding shortly after midnight on Hammond Street by Bangor police Officer Wade Betters. Betters said Frost’s 1997 Dodge Avenger was going 52 mph in a 25 mph zone.
In approaching the vehicle, Betters could smell alcohol coming from the car, the officer wrote in the police report.
Frost, a freshman guard for Husson and former Brewer High School standout, said he hadn’t been drinking and insisted that he was just picking up a friend, the report stated.
Betters, however, wrote that the teenager had trouble producing his driver’s license and vehicle registration and appeared to be intoxicated.
Frost performed poorly on field sobriety tests and was arrested and taken to the police station.
Betters’ report said Frost’s blood alcohol level was 0.16, twice the legal limit for drivers 21 and older. Drivers under 21 cannot have any alcohol in their system.
Frost’s car was towed. He is scheduled to appear in Bangor’s 3rd District Court on Jan. 24.

Penobscot County Sheriff’s deputies are on the lookout for a 16-year-old girl who was reported missing Monday afternoon from a group home in Plymouth.
Deputy Sean McCue said Monday evening that the teenager, whose name was not given, left school in Plymouth between 11 and 11:30 a.m. and hasn’t been seen since.
McCue said he had reason to believe the teenager was attempting to travel to Florida to see her mother, who has been ordered not to have contact with her daughter.
The deputy said the girl’s disappearance is not considered suspicious at this time. McCue said he hasn’t ruled out the possibility that the teenager is staying with a friend.
