Power outages caused by stormy weather

BANGOR – High winds and stormy weather caused widespread power outages around the state Thursday night, according to a Bangor Hydro customer service representative.

Reports of power outages began to filter in to the power company at 5 p.m. Thursday. By 8:15 p.m., roughly 900 residences were without electricity.

Outages caused by trees falling on power lines were located in the Bangor area, north of Bangor and in Hancock County.

Central Maine Power reported scattered outages throughout its coverage area.

The National Weather Service issued high wind warnings throughout the state continuing into this morning. Wind gusts of 40 mph were expected.
