Man accused of throwing appliances into Dumpster

Officers arrested a Bangor man Thursday night who allegedly had thrown his girlfriend’s TV and VCR into a Dumpster after a fight they had about her spending time with a lesbian friend.

John Finnegan, 56, was arrested and charged with domestic criminal mischief after the incident.

Officers responding to a hang-up 911 call at the York Street residence found that the visibly intoxicated couple was in agreement about the cause and results of the fight. Police also found the woman’s electrical appliances covered in mud and getting rained on in the Dumpster, which they returned to her with the caution that she should let the wires dry out before she plugged them in.

Finnegan was taken to Penobscot County Jail without incident. The woman was urged to leave the residence but declined.

A Union Street man who had left an $800 laser tripod in his yard reported it stolen at 10 a.m. Friday in Bangor.

Officers were investigating the possibility that the thief also had recently stolen some tools from a nearby construction site, but because of lack of evidence, filed the case as inactive.

Two cases of full juice boxes, a 12-pack of lemonade and $5.50 worth of returnable bottles and cans were taken from a Grant Street porch by an apparently thirsty thief sometime Thursday evening in Bangor.

The total value of the stolen items was $23.50. Police have no suspects yet.
