ORONO – A chimney fire Sunday at Pat’s Pizza caused no damage to the building, according to fire officials.

Fire crews evacuated the structure until the fire was extinguished, mainly because smoke had reached some places inside. There were no injuries and the fire was contained to the chimney, Orono Fire Capt. Henry Vaughan said Sunday.

Creosote that had built up inside the chimney – despite the fact it recently had been cleaned – was the cause of the fire, the captain said.

Some hot debris came out of the chimney and landed on Dumpsters behind the building, but didn’t cause any damage, Vaughan said.

The fire, which took about an hour to extinguish, was reported by a passer-by.
