Selander’s 29 propel Caribou past Orono

ORONO – Monica Selander scored 14 of her 29 points in the third quarter Tuesday night to spark Caribou to a 48-46 girls basketball victory over Orono.

McKayla Gahagan scored nine points for Caribou.

Stacey Saucier had 19 points, 11 rebounds, and four blocked shots for Orono and Emily Sypher scored 12 points and added 10 rebounds.

At Houlton’s Millar Arena, third-period goals a minute apart by Jordan Gard and Ben Henderson enabled the Black Hawks to rally for the tie.

Henderson swept home a cross-ice pass from Sharif Abouleish with 6:04 remaining after Gard had converted a Chris Howland assist.

Erik St. Peter’s unassisted goal and Brad Baker’s score off a Brandon Berube assist had staked Presque Isle to a 2-0 first-period lead.

Sean Daigle made 40 saves for the 4-0-1 Wildcats while Nic Joslyn had 28 stops for 1-1-2 Houlton-Hodgdon.
