JEFFERSON – A 51-year-old man was fatally injured Tuesday in a workplace accident, according to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.

Neil Gilbert of West Bethel was working as a boom operator on a pulp truck at a wood lot on the South Clary Road at approximately 8:30 a.m. when the truck slid down an incline, rolling the vehicle over, throwing Gilbert from the boom and onto the ground, according to the sheriff’s criminal investigations division.

Gilbert was declared dead at the scene by first responders from Jefferson Fire and Rescue.

Further investigation into the incident is being conducted by sheriff’s investigators. The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration was also at the scene conducting an investigation.
