EDDINGTON – The Fire Department’s proposed 2005 budget is $250 less than last year’s version.
Fire Chief Alan Boynton presented the department’s budget, which covers supplies, building operation costs, compensation, training and equipment, to selectmen Dec. 21.
Town Manager Russell Smith said Thursday the department’s proposal totals $76,100 – just under the current budget.
The town’s fiscal year ends Jan. 30, and both the Fire Department and the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Department preliminary budgets are used in drawing the town’s new municipal budget. The Sheriff’s Department’s proposed budget is $57,996.
Selectmen last week also discussed appointments to a new SAD 63 budget advisory committee, but they want to receive official word about the nominating process, Smith said.
The SAD 63 board created a nine-member budget advisory committee Dec. 6 that will include three board members, town leaders from Clifton, Eddington and Holden, and a resident from each community. The committee will meet several times in February and March to discuss the district’s budget.
At the Dec. 7 selectmen’s meeting, the panel named Selectman Brian Glass to represent Eddington on the advisory committee. Selectmen had wanted to name a town resident during their Dec. 21 meeting, but decided to hold off until hearing from the school district.
“I haven’t heard anything” from SAD 63 administration about the committee, Smith said. “The only thing I’ve gotten is what I read in the paper.”
The town had not received any correspondence from SAD 63 as of Thursday, Smith said.
Eddington’s town office is closed today for the New Year’s Eve holiday.
