BANGOR – A Bangor woman has been sentenced to 21/2 years in prison with all but 90 days suspended after pleading guilty to stealing drugs from her former employer.
Tori-Lynn Gass, 22, also was sentenced Monday to two years probation that includes random drug testing and counseling, and restitution of about $3,000.
She was indicted in September by the Penobscot County grand jury on counts of stealing drugs and unlawful possession of scheduled drugs, but the possession charge was dropped in a plea agreement.
Gass worked as a pharmacy technician at Miller Drug in Bangor when in December 2003 she began stealing OxyContin pills a few at a time. The painkiller can be sold illegally for $20 to $40 per pill depending on its strength, prosecutors have said.
Assistant Attorney General William Savage, who prosecuted the case, said Gass immediately accepted responsibility for her actions and had no criminal record.
“I think the sentence is fair,” he said Thursday. “She was in a position of trust, a very serious position that included handling narcotics.”
Gass has lost her license as a pharmacy technician, according to Savage.
He declined to say what Gass did with the pills. Conditions of her probation include not residing with Timothy Clarke.
