MACHIAS – A Pleasant Point man made his first appearance in court Wednesday after his arrest Tuesday morning for allegedly stabbing another man in the upper chest.
Seth Larkin, 19, appeared in District Court in Ellsworth before Judge Bernard Staples because the Washington County District Court judge, John Romei, was on vacation.
Larkin was charged with elevated aggravated assault.
Staples set Larkin’s bail at $5,000 cash or $25,000 surety. He remained in the Washington County Jail on Thursday.
Larkin, who turned 19 earlier this month, was back in Pleasant Point on an early release program from the state’s juvenile detention facility. He had been serving a sentence for a prior conviction as a juvenile.
The alleged stabbing occurred at another man’s Middle Road home at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday. Larkin was apprehended at 6:15 a.m. after a short chase on foot from his own home to a third house nearby.
Cpl. Larry Hilderbrand of the Pleasant Point Police Department said the incident involved late-night drinking and arguments.
“We are still investigating the case,” said Pleasant Point police Chief Joey Barnes. “There may possibly be further charges for [Larkin] and some others, because some other things happened, too.”
Hilderbrand declined to name the injured man, who was released from Calais Regional Hospital after undergoing surgery for the wound.
