Since I was recently diagnosed with a progressive neurological condition, I have met some wonderful people, whom I might not have met otherwise.

My initial involvement with these people was at a gathering at a support group for people who have had a spinal cord injury or other physical handicaps. The group meets the first Thursday of each month at Alpha One, 1048 Union St., Bangor. For information, call Fred at 827-7367 or Gaelen at 942-6720.

The other two groups that are great to be involved with are:

. Bangor Adaptive Bowling Group. Meet for lunch and bowling the third Wednesday of each month at The Sports Arena, 1640 Outer Hammond St., Bangor. For information, call Denny at 942-9126, or e-mail Dennis1022@adelphia.net.

. Maine Action Coalition. This advocacy group for people with physical handicaps meets the third Saturday of each month at Kenduskeag Terraces, 117 Court St., Bangor. For information, call Denny at 942-9126, or e-mail at Dennis1022@adelphia.net.

It is really great to know that if my condition progresses to the point where I will need to use more assistive devices such as a wheelchair, or if I have other challenges, I will be even more welcomed by these people.
