Nathan, 10, has passion for fishing

Nathan, 10, is a charming, funny and polite young man who wants a prospective adoptive family to know that he is a “great kid who knows how to follow directions.”

Nathan came into the care of the state Department of Health and Human Services in January 2001. He is living in a residential facility and is anxious to find a family in which he feels he can belong.

Nathan has a real passion for fishing and anything related to that sport. He would love to have a family that also likes to fish. He is happiest when he has a fishing pole or net in his hand.

He also is good at catching frogs in his net and then will gently release them. Nathan also enjoys riding his bike.

Those who work closely with Nathan recommend that he be the only child in an adoptive placement. He requires a high level of supervision and works best with adults in one-on-one situations. Nathan also is working on his behaviors that result from the challenges of his past.

Nathan very much wants to be liked and cared about. He will make a great addition to the right energetic, patient family with therapeutic experience or training.

Nathan will require a home that has access to a day treatment facility. A public school placement is not now appropriate for Nathan.

Nathan is one of 218 Maine children in the care of the state Department of Health and Human Services care who are seeking an adoptive family. For more information about Nathan or other children available for adoption, contact A Family for ME at 1-877-505-0545 or visit www.afamilyforme.org.

Based in Gardiner, A Family for ME is a nonprofit program that works in collaboration with Maine DHHS to find foster and adoptive families for Maine children in care.
