AUGUSTA – The Maine College Republicans have become the first College Republican chapter in the nation to create a board of governors, made up of many of the state’s prominent Republican leaders, including U.S. Sens. Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins.

“I am excited that the Maine College Republicans are making history by creating this critical body,” said Dan Schuberth, a student at Bowdoin College and state chairman of the Maine College Republicans.

The 10 founding members of the board were nominated unanimously at the Maine College Republicans State Committee meeting in December at the University of Maine in Orono.

Joining Snowe and Collins on the board to act as advisers to the college organization are: Maine Republican Party Chairman Randy Bumps, 2002 Republican gubernatorial candidate Peter Cianchette, former Maine Republican Party Chairwoman Kathy Watson, former Maine Senate President Richard Bennett, former state Sen. Tom Sawyer, longtime Republican grassroots activist Mary Adams, Hancock County GOP Chairman John Linnehan, and Maine Republican Party Executive Director Dwayne Bickford.
