Balanced attack leads Van Buren to third victory

PRESQUE ISLE – Ben Doucette led a balanced offense with 18 points as Van Buren upended Greater Houlton Christian Academy 77-27 in a schoolboy basketball game played at the University of Maine at Presque Isle on Thursday.

Andy Martin, Trevor Hews and Tyler Conley each added 10 points for Van Buren.

Emery Lincoln paced Greater Houlton Christian Academy with 17 points.

At East Millinocket, freshman Lanny Thompson scored on a feed from Aaron Waite at the buzzer to give the host Wolverines the victory.

Lee Academy held a 53-51 lead with 47 seconds left, but two Kerry Thompson free throws with 31 seconds left tied the game.

The Wolverines got the ball back on a Lee turnover with six seconds left to set up the winning basket.

Waite scored a team-high 14 points for Schenck, while Kerry Thompson added 13 points, Will Hamlin 11 and Chris Byron 10.

Tom Bird paced Lee with 14 points, while Neil Cowan, Peter Pickering and Jeremy Tripp added 10 points each.
