LINCOLN – Want more town basketball courts? Bocce? Volleyball pits? Another baseball and softball complex? How about a hockey rink, an indoor swimming pool or skateboard park?
Residents who want to have some say in whether the proposed town recreation center will have these things, or perhaps others, are invited to meet with a town engineer at 10 a.m. Saturday in the basement of the town office on Main Street to discuss the center’s general design specifications.
The specifications will help the center attract grant money and give town officials an idea of what the public wants in the facility, parks, recreation and cemeteries, Director Jeremy Weatherbee said.
“The engineer can explain the options of what can be included in the facility,” Weatherbee said Thursday. “He will go item by item and have a cost figure ready and have people vote on it. He will take anything and everything people would suggest and have them vote on it.”
The votes will then be tallied and split 80-20, with the bottom 20 percent of the suggestions dropped, Weatherbee said.
The engineer is Ted Ocana of Foresight Engineering of Lincoln, Weatherbee said. The town hired him last month do a design study of the town’s future community recreation center. He could not be reached for comment Thursday.
The town has raised about $17,000 for the design study of the center, Weatherbee said.
The recreation department could use one location for its efforts, Weatherbee said. Recreation efforts now are scattered among several fields or buildings.
The town also has set up a trust fund for money or in-kind donation of services to build a recreation center.
Anyone interested in contributing to that fund, or seeking more information about it, is invited to inquire at the town office.
