DEXTER – The Dexter Regional Federal Credit Union has changed its name to Maine Highlands Federal Credit Union. The credit union’s signs, brochures, Web site and advertisements all have a new look.
The name change was implemented to more accurately reflect the identity of the Piscataquis-Penobscot region covered by the credit union’s membership.
The Maine Highlands is the new name given to the area by the Maine Department of Tourism.
The credit union was formed 38 years ago as the Dexter Shoe Credit Union, serving the employees of Dexter Shoe Co. Since then it has grown to more than $50 million in assets and serves more than 12,000 members.
Maine Highlands has 40 employees in four offices, with 20 occupying the new main office at 73 Main St. in Dexter. Other offices are located in Guilford, Dover-Foxcroft and Greenville.
