Bangor police arrested Jack Fraser, 28, of Bangor on Tuesday night after his neighbor reported that earlier in the day he had forced his way into her Fifth Street apartment wielding a baseball bat and knife.

The incident began after the woman returned from Fraser’s apartment after using his coffee maker, with his permission. Shortly after she returned to her apartment, Fraser forced his way in, armed with a metal baseball bat in one hand and a knife in the other, claiming that she had taken $40 and some gift cards from him.

Fraser swung the bat, knocking her belongings around and coming within inches of hitting her head, she told Bangor police Officer Larry Morrill.

Fraser also unzipped his pants and exposed himself, according to the police report.

The 23-year-old woman convinced Fraser to leave in exchange for her help in searching for his missing property at his place. She found the money and gift cards in Fraser’s apartment and said he threw a coffee can at her as she left, striking her in the arm.

Later Tuesday, Morrill and members of Bangor’s Special Enforcement Team went to Fraser’s apartment. Fraser answered the door with his fist raised as if to strike, Morrill reported.

Taken into custody, Fraser admitted to breaking into his neighbor’s apartment, but claimed she had stolen his money and cards. He told Morrill that he had stolen the gift cards but couldn’t remember where he had stolen them from because he has blackouts when he does drugs.

Already out on bail related to two arrests in recent weeks, Fraser had been prohibited from using intoxicants and from having dangerous weapons, according to police.

Morrill reported finding the baseball bat next to the door and several knives in the apartment. Also inside was a DVD player that reportedly had been stolen from a Husson College dormitory over Christmas break. Fraser said he hadn’t stolen the DVD player, but claimed he had bought it for $20 from the man who had stolen it.

Morrill charged Fraser with criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon, assault, burglary and violation of condition of release. He was taken to Penobscot County Jail where he remained held without bail Tuesday night. Fraser is expected to be charged with receiving stolen property.
