BREWER – The Rev. Mr. Shawn W. Cutler was ordained a transitional deacon Dec. 18 at St. Pius X Catholic Church in Fairfield, Conn.

Cutler, 32, is the son of Sheila Cutler and the late Dr. William Cutler of Brewer. He is a graduate of John Bapst Memorial High School in Bangor. He also graduated cum laude from College of the Holy Cross, in Worcester, Mass.

Cutler received a bachelor’s degree in accounting and a master’s degree in business from Husson College. His seminary studies have been at Catholic University of America in Washington.

The Most Rev. William E. Lori, bishop of Bridgeport, Conn., ordained Cutler to the diaconate. He will be ordained a priest on May 21.

Cutler has served at St. Peter’s Church, Danbury, and St. Augustine Cathedral, Bridgeport. He has resided at St. John Fisher Seminary Residence in Stamford during his pastoral assignment at St. Pius X.

The Rev. Kevin Royal, rector of St. John Fisher, said, “Noteworthy in Shawn’s decision to be a priest of the Diocese of Bridgeport was his coming to know the preaching, teaching and pastoral ability of the priests of this diocese, and he truly desires to be one of them. I’m sure his year serving as a deacon will only increase his dedication.”
