Vassalboro: first class

Eighteen chaplains representing 16 agencies participated in the first certification course for law enforcement chaplains at the Maine Criminal Justice Academy under the instruction of the Revs. Gregory S. Vinson and Donald Williams, co-directors of the Maine Law Enforcement Chaplain Corps. The class, which ran last fall, represented 15 denominations and faith groups. During their instruction, the participants covered 23 subjects ranging from crisis intervention, death notifications and law enforcement family to stress management and burnout. The chaplains were: Kenneth Fitzjurls, Belfast police; Mark Tanner, Skowhegan police; Kevin Brooks, Somerset County Sheriff’s Department; Walter Douglass, Old Orchard Beach police; David Denbow, Washington County Sheriff’s Department; Kevin Jacques, Biddeford police; Earl Weigelt, Winslow police; Tom Wagers, Mike Weymouth and Wally Staples, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department; Jeff Mellwain, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Department; Alan Twombley, Westbrook police; Kim Murphy, Winthrop police; Wayne Sawyer and Kevin Haj, Thomaston police; Dwayne Hopkins and David Calhoun, Scarborough police; and Andy King, Oakland police.
