Gracie lifts Husson Eagles to win over Lesley women

BANGOR – Holly Gracie connected for 16 points Sunday to lead the Husson College Eagles to 78-52 North Atlantic Conference women’s basketball victory over Lesley College at Newman Gymnasium.

Crystal Martin added 12 points and Jodi Merchant chipped in with 11 points for Husson. Annie McIntosh handed out five assists. Carmen Ballard had nine points, six rebounds and four steals.

At Storrs, Conn., defenseman Kelly Law’s goal off a Kate Sunstrum assist with 5:48 remaining Sunday gave the Black Bears a Hockey East win over the University of Connecticut.

Tristan Desmet and Andrea Steranko had the other Maine goals with Desmet also assisting on the Steranko goal.

Jacquelyn McGuire and Katherine VanDeveire scored for UConn. VanDeveire assisted on McGuire’s goal.

Rachel Gettings made 18 saves for the Bears, who improved to 12-7-3 overall, 3-5-2 in Hockey East.

Shannon Murphy made 26 saves for UConn, which fell to 7-10-5, 3-4-1, respectively.

At Newman Gym in Bangor on Saturday, Buddy Leavitt scored 21 points and pulled down six rebounds and Jason Harvey had 18 points and six rebounds as Husson manufactured a comfortable 19-point halftime lead.

Joe Footer had nine points and six rebounds for the Eagles; Tyler Muzzy had a team-high seven rebounds and four assists and Andy Frost led Husson in steals with four.
