Winter Weekend means a flurry of outdoor fun

BANGOR – The city of Bangor and Bangor Center will sponsor the second annual Winter Weekend on Friday-Sunday, Feb. 11-13 in downtown Bangor.

Winter Weekend will kick off with the Banff Film Festival at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 11, at Norumbega Hall.

Feb. 12 activities:

Pancake breakfast, 8-11 a.m., at the Sea Dog.

Horse-drawn wagon rides, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., beginning at the Sea Dog.

River History Lectures, 10-11 a.m., at the Sea Dog. Free.

Face painting, 11 a.m.-3 p.m., at the Sea Dog. Free.

Cupid’s Wedding Ring Toss, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Gomez Park. Free.

Outdoor Sumo Wrestling, 1-3 p.m., Pickering Square. Free.

Service Dog demonstrations, 1-3 p.m., Front Street, beyond the Sea Dog. Free.

Chain saw sculpture demonstration with Rodney Richard, 1-3 p.m., Gomez Park. Free.

Tots and Kids Ice Fishing games, noon-3 p.m., behind Maine Discovery Museum. Free.

Paul Bunyan Look-alike Contest, noon-1 p.m., Gomez Park. Free.

Frisbee Golf and Snowshoe demonstration, 1-3 p.m., Pickering Square. Free.

Nighttime Snowshoe Romp along the Bangor Waterfront, 7 p.m. Sign up in advance at Epic Sports, Central Street. Free.

Hot chocolate served at Maine Discovery Museum, Gomez Park and Sea Dog. Free.

Feb. 13 activity:

River City Cinema presentation of “Dr. Zhivago,” 3 p.m., Union Street Brick Church. Admission includes chowder or chili dinner.

The Bangor Museum and Center for History has begun installing historic photos in the windows of the buildings they depict. For a variety of self-guided tour maps, stop by the museum at 6 State St. For information, call Dana Lippitt at 942-1900.
