SEBEC – A Guilford woman was injured Friday in a two-car accident on Route 16 that occurred less than a mile from the site of a fatal accident that took place earlier this week.

Lorraine Chambers, 36, was injured when a vehicle turned off Route 16 directly into the path of her vehicle at the four-way intersection, according to Investigator Allen Emerson of the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Department.

She was taken by ambulance to Mayo Regional Hospital in Dover-Foxcroft where she was being treated late Friday afternoon.

Brian Deering, 28, of Sebec was eastbound on Route 16 at 2:50 p.m. when he turned onto the Village Road, Emerson said. The driver failed to see the westbound vehicle driven by Chambers, and the two vehicles collided.

Deering’s vehicle struck the driver-side door of Chambers’ vehicle pinning her inside her 1993 Chevrolet Cavalier, he said. Sebec firefighters pried open the door to her demolished vehicle to release her.

Deering told police that the sun was glaring off his mirror and he did not see the oncoming vehicle. Charges may be pending, Emerson said.

The investigator said the road conditions weren’t a problem.

Geneva Chambers, 15, a passenger in Chambers’ vehicle, was not injured. Both she and her mother were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident, Emerson said.

Deering also was wearing a seat belt, the officer said. Damage to his 2000 Jeep was estimated at $4,000.

Dover-Foxcroft firefighters also assisted at the scene.
