WASHBURN – The Ashland Hornets erased a six-point, first-quarter deficit by outscoring the Washburn Beavers 33-13 over the second and third quarters en route to a 48-38 schoolgirl basketball win Tuesday night.

Ashley Nemer knocked down four 3-pointers on her way to 14 points for Ashland. Angela Belskis chipped in with 12 points and Mindy Chasse had 11.

Alex Bird paced host Washburn with 12 points and Erica McDougall grabbed 12 rebounds.

At the Northern Maine Forum in Presque Isle, John Tuell won a faceoff and then scored with nine seconds left in overtime to give the Red Riots the victory.

Tuell opened the scoring for the 12-2-1 Red Riots off an assist from Tony Raymond in the first period. Dan Ohno added a second-period goal off a Travis Bryant assist. Jared Buzzell made 23 saves.

The 6-5-2 Wildcats rallied to tie the game with two third-period goals. Corey Collins scored off a David O’Brien assist and Brad Baker added an unassisted goal. Brendon Esquibel made 20 saves.

At Madawaska, Mark Sirois scored 20 points to pace Madawaska to the win.

Myles Morneault had 18 points for the Owls. Alan Campbell scored 12 points and Kenny Sirois added 10.
