Nokomis holds off Rams in 4th to avenge losses

NEWPORT – The Nokomis girls basketball team’s eight-point third-quarter lead proved to be just enough as the Warriors held off Bangor 28-27 Wednesday, avenging two losses to the Rams earlier this season.

Kelly Paradis scored 10 points to lead Nokomis, which withstood Bangor’s 7-0 scoring edge in the fourth quarter. Rozlyn Peterson had seven rebounds.

Alyssa Ogden paced Bangor with nine points. Serena Dubois had eight points, nine rebounds and four steals.

At the Alfond Center in Kents Hill, Mike Brown scored the second of his two goals 3:02 into the third period on a breakaway to lift the Broncos to the win.

Dan Mangano assisted on Brown’s first goal for 9-3 Hampden Academy. Rory Woods made 15 saves on 16 shots.

Micah Ehiorobo tallied an unassisted goal for 4-5 Kents Hill. Anthany Barbato blocked 26 out of 28 shots.

Brewer 5, Lawrence 3

At Sukee Arena in Winslow, Prentiss Swett scored two goals and added an assist as the Witches rallied from an early deficit to post the win.

Dave Perry chipped in with a goal and two assists for 9-4 Brewer. Ben Caldwell and Ted Kotredes each scored a goal and Aaron Saunders stopped 25 of 28 shots.

Brothers Tom and Mike Hersom each scored for the 4-9 Bulldogs of Fairfield. Josh Mitchell also scored a goal and Allie Woods made 32 saves on 37 shots.

Boys basketball

Penquis 63, Central 58 (OT)

At Milo, Devin Perkins hit two free throws with 2:30 left in regulation to send the game to overtime, where Nate Allen hit two 3-pointers to give the Patriots a cushion they wouldn’t relinquish.

Allen had seven points in the extra session and nine in the game while Perkins finished with a game-high 18.

Jordan Allen tossed in 13 for Penquis and Justin Morrill 11.

Joey Kane led the Red Devils of Corinth with 17 and Mike Julian 16.

George Keefe’s 16 points and Kyle Ferrill’s 11 guided John Bapst of Bangor and Logan Adams contributed eight points.
