The Democratic-controlled Maine House and Senate, along with Gov. Baldacci, are patting themselves on the back for supposedly passing a property tax relief bill.
The arrogance of these politicians to go against the wishes of the overwhelming majority of voters, who voted that the state assume 55 percent of school funding, once again shows their disregard for the people’s wishes.
They say they will meet 55 percent in four years. Did they not say that more than 20 years ago? Think we can believe them this time?
Now they are going to change the school funding formula. You can bet only one who will get an advantage here is state government – not local schools. These politicians will see to that.
Now, Baldacci wants to go against the wishes of the voters with a new seat belt law and fines of $250. I guess he figures he can get back any tax relief in one swoop with a fine.
The will of the people seems to mean nothing to these politicians. Now, tell us that term limits was not a good idea. However, most of them will find a nice, soft job in state government after their terms are up.
Ah, life in Maine, the way it is supposed to be.
