TOWNSHIP 22 – Two people from Massachusetts were taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor after their pickup truck hit a snowbank and rolled over on Route 9 Wednesday afternoon.

Anna Lee Doyle, 66, and husband William Doyle, 67, both of Melrose, Mass., were taken by ambulance to the hospital. Information on their conditions was unavailable Wednesday night but police said their injuries were minor.

Hancock County Deputy Sheriff Luke Gross said Anna Lee Doyle was eastbound on the busy highway just after noon when she lost control of her Ford Ranger pickup truck on a sharp corner. The truck hit a snowbank, rolled over and hit a tree before coming to a stop, he said.

A passer-by used a cell phone to call Maine State Police, who in turn notified the Sheriff’s Department. Crews from the Aurora and Mariaville fire departments also responded, along with Cherryfield and County ambulances.

Anna Lee Doyle was pinned inside the cab for a short time and was extricated from the truck, Gross said. Police stopped traffic so a tow truck could pull the Doyles’ vehicle from the snowbank, causing cars to back up along Route 9 for more than a mile.
