Ciomei’s 10 in 4th sparks Mariners’ win MDI victor in key ‘B’ contest

DEER ISLE – Bryant Ciomei scored 10 of his 16 points in the fourth quarter to help lead Deer Isle-Stonington to a 55-44 boys basketball victory over Lee Academy on Friday night.

Josh Eaton had 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Mariners, and Tim Parker added nine rebounds.

Gerry Worster led Lee Academy with 13 points, and Tom Bird added 10.

At Bar Harbor, the Trojans changed to a 2-3 zone defense in the third quarter and it helped them expand a four-point halftime lead into 19 by the end of the period en route to a big Class B win.

Robin Daley led all scorers with 23 points for Mount Desert Island, and Kyle Staples had 22, including eight in the third period. Dan Wardman chipped in with 10.

Corey DeWitt paced the Eagles with 20 points, and Demetrios Katsiaficas tossed in 15.

Mike Brown and Jason Huntley assisted on the game-winning goal for 10-3 Hampden. Rory Woods stopped all eight Houlton-Hodgdon shots.

Nick Joslyn made 35 saves on 36 shots for the 7-4-2 Black Hawks.

Danielle O’Brien was the game’s leading scorer with 13 points for Calais. Ashley Allen added nine and Jessie Brown eight, respectively.
