Bangor man charged after knives discovered

A domestic dispute late Friday led to the arrest of a man on charges of terrorizing, carrying a concealed weapon and violating conditions of release.

Jeffrey McKenney, 38, of Bangor had been summoned just two days before for allegedly assaulting his ex-girlfriend at an Ohio Street apartment.

Even though the conditions of his release stipulated he was not to consume alcohol or have contact with his ex-girlfriend, McKenney reportedly returned to her apartment and began drinking with her.

Police responded to a 911 call from the Ohio Street residence at around 10:30 p.m. Friday and saw McKenney walking from the apartment clearly intoxicated, according to a police report by Bangor police Officer Chad Foley.

In searching McKenney, police found a large survival knife under his coat and a smaller folding knife inside a pants pocket.

The woman told Officer Brandon Vafiades that McKenney had threatened to kill her and even showed her the knives he was carrying, the report said.

A woman who was given five days to cover a bounced check written at Top Care Nails in Bangor has been issued a summons for negotiating a worthless instrument.

Jennifer Bemis, 24, of Hampden wrote a check for $35 in November 2004. The check bounced and Top Care Nails sent Bemis a mail notice.

Bangor police Officer William Lawrence tracked down Bemis at her home Jan. 30. She told him she never received a notice and didn’t realize her check had bounced, according to a police report.

Lawrence told Bemis she had five days to pay Top Care Nails but hadn’t heard from her as of Sunday and issued a summons.

A Parkman woman was injured in an apparent hit-and-run accident Friday afternoon.

Donna Kraft-Smith, 48, was crossing Harlow Street in Bangor shortly before 5 p.m. when a small red car struck her, knocking her down and injuring her ankle.

The young male driver of the car told Kraft-Smith he would turn around and speak with her but sped off instead, a police report stated.

Bangor police have no suspects but are investigating the incident.

A man who started a fight on the dance floor at Barnaby’s on Saturday was arrested on a warrant after Bangor police escorted him outside the bar.

Cory S. Nash, 21, of Corinth was identified by his red bandana, Officer David Bushey stated in his police report.

Nash had an active warrant out of Aroostook County for burglary and probation revocation.

Bangor police are hoping a man who dropped off an identification card and gift certificate Saturday afternoon at the police station returns so they can find out where the items came from.

Sgt. Paul Edwards said the man told a dispatcher that he found the items on the street, then left before identifying himself.

Edwards encouraged the man to return to the station or call Detective Tim Cotton.
