ORONO – University of Maine seniors Kim Corbitt and Aaron Izaryk received the 2005 M Club Dean Smith Award as the college’s top male and female scholar-athletes during a halftime ceremony at Sunday afternoon’s Maine men’s basketball game.

Corbitt, a 5-foot-7 guard from Albany, N.Y., is majoring in biological engineering and mathematics and is a co-captain and four-year starter. She is averaging 6.8 points and 3.6 assist per game for her career in 109 games and was named the AE defensive player of the year in 2002-03.

Izaryk, a senior catcher on the varsity baseball team from Markham, Ontario, was an all-America East first team selection in 2004 with a .287 batting average, 38 runs scored and 38 RBIs. He is majoring in kinesiology and physical education.

Both students are America East Scholar-Athlete Award winners in their respective sports and Maine Scholar-Athlete gold medalists.
