Jimmy Howard

Maine men’s ice hockey junior goalie Jimmy Howard has been named the Hockey East Defensive Player of the Week. Howard stopped 57 of 60 shots he faced last weekend as Maine split the weekend series. In the 3-1 win over New Hampshire on Friday, he stopped 28 of 29 shots in the Wildcat’s first home loss of the season.

Nick Pelotte

Plymouth State University senior guard Nick Pelotte has been named Little East Conference player of the week for the fourth time this season. The Bingham native averaged 27.3 points, 6.7 assists and 3.0 rebounds per game in PSU’s three victories last week. The two-time All-LEC first team pick leads the conference in scoring with 25.5 points per game.

Hollie Gracie

Husson’s Hollie Gracie has been named North Atlantic Conference Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. In a 4-0 for the Eagles she averaged 15 points per game, along with an average three rebounds and assist. Last week Gracie broke the single-season record for three-point baskets at Husson, blowing the old mark of 50. She currently has 58 with two more weeks left in regular season play.

Olivia Zurek

Bate’s senior forward Olivia Zurek has been named New England Small College Athletic Conference’s Women’s Basketball Player of the Week. She averaged 17 points and 16.5 rebounds last week in two wins. Against top-ranked Bowdoin, Zurek scored 17 points and grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds. She also had four assists, three blocks and a steal in 34 minutes.

Michael Bunker

University of Southern Maine senior Michael Bunker captured the 5,000-meter run title at the Maine State Men’s Indoor Championships for the second year in a row Sunday with a time of 15 minutes, 24.82 seconds.

Trey Gadbois

University of Maine sophomore Trey Gadbois won the high jump by clearing 1.92 meters at the Maine State Men’s Indoor Championships Sunday. He also was second in the triple jup (13.79 meters) and fourth in the long jump (6.27 meters).
