Jones, Frost help USM to 19th win

BOSTON – The University of Southern Maine Huskies used a balanced scoring attack to improve to 10-0 in the Little East Conference in an 86-43 women’s basketball victory over the UMass Boston Beacons Tuesday night.

The Huskies moved to within one victory of their 25th consecutive 20-win season.

Tiffany Jones scored 13 points and grabbed eight rebounds for the winners and Katie Frost added 12 points. Lisa Welch added nine points while Ashley Marble and Trish Sylvain had eight apiece.

Donna Cowing and Megan Myles each chipped in with five assists for the winners.

Lydia Coverdale paced the Beacons with 12 points and Kristen Reske netted nine.

At Unity, Jeremy Kervin tallied 22 points, 10 rebounds, three assists, three steals and seven blocks to power the Rams in a Yankee Conference quarterfinal.

Joey Bearce added 17 points and eight assists for Unity. Tyler Furguson scored 14 points and Grant Harter added 12. Jared Erskine had nine rebounds.

Craig Durost and Peter Bates each poured in 20 points for Northern Maine Community College. Rusty Nadeau scored 11.
