Bank promotions

Bangor Savings Bank has announced recent promotions:

. Jane Towne Kaelin of Winterport, commercial lending officer at 99 Franklin St., has been promoted to vice president. She has several years’ experience, most recently as director of lending for Eastern Maine Development Corp.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Trinity College and a master’s in business administration from Thomas College in Waterville.

Kaelin also has been a loan officer with Coastal Enterprises, finance director of the Lewiston-Auburn Economic Growth Council and business manager of the Maine College of Art.

She is vice president of the Genesis Community Loan Fund and treasurer of the Bicycle Coalition of Maine.

. Kenneth “Kip” Ferland of Bangor has been promoted to branch manager in the main office at State Street.

Ferland joined the bank in 2002 as supervisor in item processing and later was promoted to assistant branch manager. His 14 years of banking experience includes retail and operations.

He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine and is a member of the Lions Club in Bangor. He participated in the 2004 Downtown Winter Carnival and National Folk Festival.

Jack DeCamp, senior vice president and commercial loan officer in Bangor, was presented the Volunteer of the Year Award recently by the Maine Real Estate & Development Association at its forecast conference in Portland. DeCamp was recognized for leadership in MEREDA’s efforts to increase its presence in the Bangor area.

Grand reopening

Cityside Yarn Co. will hold its grand reopening celebration 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, at its new location at Chapel Hill Plaza, 1046 Outer Hammond St. As part of the event, WEZQ will broadcast live from the store.

Those who wear something they’ve knit will receive a gift.

Drawings and door prizes will include Lucy Neatby’s sock yarn and a sock pattern, Tess ribbon yarn, enough Danubio yarn for a sweater and a sweater pattern, a Cityside T-shirt, a purse kit and books.

New cosmetologist

Insparations Day Spa has announced that cosmetologist Charity Bailey has joined the Aveda salon team at the spa on Ridgewood Drive.

Hannaford for hunger relief

Hannaford Supermarkets have kicked off their annual Have a Heart for Hunger campaign, a program designed to help provide hunger relief to organizations in five states.

In Maine, the benefiting organizations are Good Shepherd Food Bank and Wayside Soup Kitchen.

During February, customers may make donations as part of their food bill. Donation coupons in $2 and $5 denominations are available at all registers.

Hannaford has announced kickoff contributions totaling $5,000.

New Internet access

ChristianNetcast.com, which provides streaming services for Christian radio stations, has announced that it is launching nationwide Internet access.

The first phase will offer dial-up Internet access throughout the United States and part of Canada. ChristianNetcast.net will be the official Web site of the latest venture of the Bangor-based company.

The Farm Service Agency of the U.S. Department of Agriculture reminds farmers to apply for their operating or ownership loans.

“FSA is committed to providing family farmers with loans to meet their farm credit needs,” said Farm Loan manager Jennifer Ranke. “If you are having trouble getting the credit you need for your farm, or regularly borrow from FSA, direct and guaranteed loans are available now.”

Customer Appreciation Day

Aubuchon Hardware in Brewer will hold its fourth annual Customer Appreciation Day on Saturday, Feb. 12, with a portion of the day’s proceeds going to the Brewer High School Key Club.

Last year, Aubuchon stores raised a total of $68,000 for local organizations.

Store manager David G. Wilkinson said he hoped the local effort on behalf of Key Club would be very successful this year.

Aubuchon Hardware has been a family-owned store since 1908.

Insurance for credit union

John Reed, president of Maine Savings Federal Credit Union, has announced that F.A. Peabody Co. of Hampden will be the servicing agency for the credit union’s property casualty insurance division, One Maine Insurance, this year.

F.A. Peabody is a 78-year-old, multi-line insurance agency with eight offices in central and northern Maine.

Maine Savings Federal Credit Union has offices in Hampden, Corinth, Brewer and four other locations.

Agriculture conference

A daylong conference on the outlook for agriculture in Maine will be held March 10 at Wells Commons on the University of Maine campus.

The UMaine Cooperative Extension Service will sponsor the conference, which will focus on the needs of Maine farmers and the strategies being developed by public and private organizations to meet those needs.

Speakers will discuss the history and future of Maine farms, the role of agriculture in rural economic development and UM’s efforts to help farmers thrive.
