Husson earns 15th straight victory

BANGOR – Husson College broke open a close game in the second half to earn a 96-77 North Atlantic Conference men’s basketball victory over Thomas College on Wednesday night.

The win was the 15th in a row for the Eagles.

Phil White led four Husson players in double figures with 24 points on 12 for 15 shooting. Buddy Leavitt chalked up 17 points, including 12 on four 3-pointers. Tyler Muzzy and Micah Grant added 14 apiece and Jason Harvey scored 13.

Adam Rich had 24 points to lead the Terriers of Waterville. James Godley notched 13 points and Dan Grappi 11.

At Castine, Trafton Teague tossed in 17 points to lead the University of Maine at Farmington to a North Atlantic Conference win.

Bobby Deetjjen notched 13 points and seven rebounds and Luke Neilsen grabbed 13 boards for UM-Farmington.

Shawn Kenniston led the Mariners with 13.

At Bangor, Deon Cheers scored 31 points to help lead the No. 9 University of Maine at Augusta past No. 8 Eastern Maine Community College in the Yankee Small College Conference Tournament.

Coop Nickerson had 29 points and 18 rebounds for UM-Augusta and Lawrence Pickett added 23 points.

Bruce Boyington had 26 points, 10 assists, and five steals for the Eagles. Kris Douglas scored 15 points and Mark Rivers added 13 points and 10 rebounds.

At Bangor, the Terriers of Waterville erased a seven-point halftime deficit with a 36-29 second-half run to send the game to overtime, where they eventually pulled a huge North Atlantic Conference upset.

Kim Drosdik led Thomas with 18 points and Tammy Fowler tossed in 14. Karen Demers added 11.

Holly Gracie’s 22 points led all scorers for the Eagles. Michelle Murray chalked up 19 and Annie McIntosh 10.

At Castine, Alyssa Burns had 15 points, 13 rebounds and five steals to help lead Maine Maritime Academy to victory.

Julia Knights had 13 points, 11 boards and three steals for Maine Maritime and Kaitlyn Leeman scored 12 points.

Kari Simpson had eight points, 10 rebounds and six steals for the University of Maine at Farmington while Karen Sirois and Kate LaHaye each scored 10 points.
