NEWPORT – The burning of a shed with a permit by a local contractor got out of hand when the wind shifted Wednesday morning, causing the fire to spread to a second shed.

Assistant Fire Chief Fred Hickey said that the farmhouse on Priley Road was being renovated and that there were several outbuildings that were to be removed.

The contractor was burning one shed when the second shed, one of three in a row, also caught fire.

“We stood by until the sheds collapsed, just to make sure that the fire didn’t spread any further,” said Hickey.

Corinna Fire Department was also called to the scene.
