Baileyville overdose leads to man’s arrest

BAILEYVILLE – A Baileyville man was arrested Wednesday by the Maine Drug Enforcement Agency for allegedly having supplied drugs to another man who later experienced an overdose.

Robert Harriman, 43, was arrested by MDEA agents and Baileyville police officers. He was charged with unlawful furnishing of a Schedule W drug, a Class C crime. Harriman posted bail from the Washington County Jail, and will make his first appearance in Calais District Court on April 5.

The Baileyville police had responded to a call just before 7 a.m. Wednesday to an Oxford Street residence, where they found an unresponsive 29-year-old male. He was taken to Calais Regional Hospital and stabilized. MDEA agents and the local police gathered evidence that resulted in Harriman’s arrest.

The man who overdosed had used a 50 mm Duragesic patch, which is a transdermal delivery system for the narcotic Fentanyl.

The matter remains under investigation by MDEA agents to determine whether the drugs provided to the victim directly contributed to the overdose.
