Although the Bangor Y’s annual Spring Fair is not until April 1, many people are hard at work, hoping to make it as successful as ever.

One group that would appreciate your support for its booth at the Spring Fair is the Y’s Caring Connections program, which offers no-cost breast and cervical health screening and diagnostic services for underserved women and oversees the Y’s breast cancer and bone health support groups.

Director Rosemarie LeGasse and assistant director Robin Long wrote that Caring Connections will again “have its much-enjoyed and successful Silent Auction, as well as the Chocolate Cafe, where we offer tasty beverages and delicious sweet treats to tempt people of all ages.”

To help in this effort, LeGasse and Long are requesting your contributions.

They are seeking donations of services in the form of gift certificates, donations of items for the silent auction, money to help defray booth expenses and donations of “a culinary treasure to sell Spring Fair customers at the Chocolate Cafe.”

The women are asking you to make “desserts that are eye-appealing and sized/prepared in individual servings,” such as cookies, squares, French horns, eclairs, cupcakes, brownies, creme puffs, whoopee pies and candies.

They report that some nice items have already been donated for the auction, including a hockey stick autographed by members of the 2004-2005 University of Maine men’s hockey team and a puck autographed by its goalie, Jimmy Howard.

A Rockport couple has donated three windsurfing boards with all related equipment, some wet suits and other gear.

Sandra Johnson of the nonprofit River City Cinema Society suggests you “take your valentine to see one of the greatest love stories of all time” when RCCS presents “Dr. Zhivago” at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, at Union Street Brick Church in Bangor.

During intermission, purchase a hot soup supper prepared by Sea Dog Restaurant chefs and RCCS cooks, with bread from Friar’s Bakehouse.

Folks who enjoy bingo will want to get tickets for a Basket Bingo beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, at Jeff’s Catering in Brewer.

The tickets are $12 each for 12 regular bingo games.

The event also features a Blackout Game and a raffle.

For a small fee, you can purchase lunch prepared by Jeff’s Catering.

Sponsored by the Fourteenth Street School PTO of Bangor, proceeds will help Phase II install playground equipment this spring to complete the project that began three years ago.

Snowmobilers are invited to participate in the first Snowmobile Ride for Children’s Miracle Network, which will leave at 8 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, from the Wal-Mart parking lot in Brewer.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. inside the Wal-Mart tire department.

The suggested donation is $20 per sled, and includes lunch after the ride.

All drivers will be entered in drawings for prizes, and a 50-50 raffle will be featured.

St. John’s Episcopal Church administrator Corky Smith invites you to attend Sweets for the Sweets, a dessert food auction at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 12, at the church at 225 French St. in Bangor.

A spaghetti dinner will be served at 6, during which Father Kevin Holsapple and his Bluegrass Band will perform. The live auction follows at 7.

The suggested donation, to cover the dinner cost, is $10 for adults and $5 for children.

Proceeds benefit programs of St. John’s.

“Show Tunes Off-Broadway” is 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 13, in Peakes Auditorium at Bangor High School on Broadway.

The fund-raiser for Boy Scout Troop 10 will help them travel to Florida National High Adventure Sea Base in April.

The show features about 30 singers from Greater Bangor who are donating their talents to help the Scouts.

Kevin Bate is directing the program, and John Haskell is the accompanist.

Tickets are $10 and are available in Bangor at Patrick’s Hallmark Store in the Broadway Shopping Center, Rebecca’s on Main Street and at the door.
