Regarding the article, “Bikers mob hearing, pan proposed helmet law” (BDN, Feb. 9).
To quote Nancy Findlan, executive director of the Brain Injury Association of Maine: “Is it the public’s choice to have to financially support the increased medical expenses and perhaps long-term reliance on state assistance because they exercised their choice not to wear a helmet?”
Now, replace the last word “helmet” with “condom.”
If the state wants to save money, I suggest they start with a condom law. One in which those who ride decide is no longer an option for those, who by choice, not accident, did not use a condom and now need government assistance to pay for that choice.
It will save the country billions of dollars every year.
When it becomes a law, that one must wear a condom so that we, the public, no longer need to support the state assistance programs, then by all means, stick a condom on my head and call me safe.
Until then, it is my ride, my choice and my life. I have cost you nothing in the 25-plus years I have been riding.
